Offshore wind power is currently a key project for the government in promoting renewable energy. To ensure the safety of offshore wind farms, control operational risk and increase investment willingness, Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) actively builds the capacities in offshore wind farm accreditation in Taiwan. Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF) was entrusted by BSMI with providing relevant accreditation services in renewable energy domain, ensuring that the capabilities of certification bodies and test laboratories meet international standards in our country.

To assist local industry, scholars and experts in understanding international experience and practice of offshore wind power, such as the management system, accreditation standards, practice requirements, etc. of “IEC System for Certification to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Renewable Energy Applications” (IECRE), TAF hosted the “International Seminar for Offshore Wind Farm Management System and Accreditation Requirements” on September 3, 2019 (Tuesday) on the 2nd floor auditorium at Inspection and Certification Building of BSMI. The lead assessor of IECRE, Mr. Alistair Mackinnon, was specially invited to this international seminar held in Taiwan, to talk about IECRE offshore wind farm management systems and accreditation requirements. Mr. Alistair Mackinnon has conducted several assessments for IECRE laboratories and certification bodies all over the world, and has extensive experience in assessment practice. This seminar allows wind farm developers to understand the latest IECRE project accreditation requirements, as well as international methods as reference for establishing offshore wind farm project accreditation system in our country.

In addition, to complete the offshore wind farm accreditation project, TAF specially invited the managing director of Japan Accreditation Board (JAB), Ms. Yuko Yoneoka to Taiwan, for signing a memorandum with TAF. Japan Accreditation Board (JAB) is the largest certification body at present in Japan, with years of certification experience in renewable energy. TAF has a long working relationship with Japan Accreditation Board (JAB) in various domains, and both parties will continue to work closely on offshore wind power and other technological domains in the future.

Through this seminar, TAF aims to assist local wind power industry and organizations such as the competent authority and research units in understanding the international system and methods, facilitate the development of the offshore wind power industry and cultivation of wind energy talent, thus supporting the offshore wind power policies in our country to accelerate the implementation and expand the proportion of renewable energy power generation.
